“And my spirit hath rejoiced in God my Savior.” - Luke 1: 47
I have long been intrigued by the beautiful connection between Jesus Christ and His mother, Mary. She bled to bring Him life, and He in turn would bleed to offer her eternal life. Soon after His birth she fled to Egypt to save Him from the decrees of Herod, protecting Him to fulfill His role as the Son of God. In return he would save her from death and sin. He would offer a covering, made possible by His sacrifice, that would protect and rescue her.
A mother is a savior too. We bring life, we nurture, and protect. We rescue with last minute homework assignments, provide clean clothes, drive the carpool, cheer and champion our little ones on. But we’re not perfect, we are also dependent on Christ to save us, to offer a covering for where we lack. Together we work together in this beautiful work to save the souls of men.
