"Looking Up"

"I believe Christ is the ultimate optimist. Over and over again in the scriptures he shares messages of hope and peace: “…let not your heart be troubled, neither let it be afraid.” John 14:27 “In the world ye shall have tribulation: but be of good cheer; I have overcome the world.” John 16:33"

"There's More to See"

"It can be so easy to just see what is right before us. We can get lost in the monotony of daily living: chores, deadlines, appointments. However, when I take the time to look behind me at all the small, seeming coincidences, I can see God’s hand directing me. When I look around to the needs of others, I am lifted as I take opportunities to serve. And as I shift my sights from the temporal to the eternal, vast learning opens to my view. There is always so much more to see."

"The Student"

"This painting represents the effort of a student to try and learn in a new way. Learning new things requires vulnerability, patience and study. I needed all of those when I was first learning ninja. What that experience taught me was that I need the same qualities when it comes to my personal relationships."

"The Release"

"I was holding on so tightly, but I had to let go. These hands are a symbol. They point upward but are also turned outward. As I gave all my grief and anxiety over to God, He taught me that I would only find healing as I looked to Him daily and as I sought to serve others. For it is only through God’s grace, made possible through the atonement of His Son, Jesus Christ, that we are able to let go and find peace. And it is only by keeping our hands facing outward that we are able to find joy again through service."

"When Upside Down is Right Side Up"

"The word “turn” connotes not only a change of position, but also an evolution into something else. When I paint, I often turn or rotate my paintings while I’m working on them. This means I often find myself painting portraits upside down. I do this because each rotation offers a different perspective, and I can see more clearly adjustments that need to be made. Therefore, as I turn my painting, I’m also turning it one layer at a time into the masterpiece I hope for. I believe God may do the same thing to us. Just when we feel like we have a handle on life, he’ll turn things upside down. This can be terrifying at first, but each change offers us new sight, and opportunities to learn and grow. Each change can bring refinement from the Master."

"Unveiling"

"I honestly created this painting, hoping to express a desire I've had for a long time to push back against the veil, the separation between heaven and earth. Having a son on the other side will do that to you. But what I've have loved about this painting is how expansive it has been for me. It seems to have layers and layers of meaning. It's also about being able to lift the veil of grief that seemed to cloud my vision for so long, and be able to clearly see God's wisdom and love for me. It's about the lifting of the veil that has been on women for centuries, and inviting all of God's daughters to step up and take their place in His kingdom. It's about hope for the future. It's about light. What does it say to you?"

"Renewal"

"No matter how dark the night, there is always the hope of the dawn. I love that there is always a new day on the horizon. Each night is like a death, a sleep, and each morning we rise again. We sacrifice our broken hearts and allow Christ to give us a new one. We let go of the old, and trust that Christ can make new. Christ’s power over death promises a physical resurrection, but also a new life to those left behind in death’s wake."

"Daily Drink"

"If there has been one practice that has had the greatest impact on my entire life, it has been the daily work of seeking a relationship with Jesus Christ. My mother taught me that I could come to know Him through daily scripture study, prayer, and writing. She called it "The PJS" (prayer, journal, and scriptures) but it really is drinking deeply each day from the fountain of living waters. My mom was right, it has helped me come to know Him, and in the process, it's also helped me come to know myself. I began with small sips, and now seek immersion."

"Coming through"

"I began this painting in January 2019, wanting to convey the idea of coming through the other side of trials a better person. However, it sat unfinished in my studio for over a year, always taking the backseat to other projects. Then as the world became more and more complicated through 2020 this painting continued to give me hope. "

"Our Chapter"

"Have we remembered our story? Do we remember that our country was begun by people who had a strong faith in God and a determination to ensure freedom for His children on earth? Do we remember their courage, tenacity, grit? Do we remember the freedoms we enjoy are a product of their fortitude? Is the book of American history being handed down from generation to generation? Each succeeding people holds a responsibility to preserve that which was so painfully fought for before, and each also adds a piece to the story. So what will we write in our chapter? What is the legacy that we will add to the beautiful portrait of this country?"

"Grace in the Fall"

I see the turning of the seasons as a beautiful symbol of renewal. The earth dies and comes alive again every year. Fall is my favorite season and isn’t it interesting that the colors and beauty of the world become so intense right before everything seems to die?
