I’ve been working on a painting of Jesus in Gethsemane and I’ve thought about the approaching night and the courage that Jesus had to even walk into that Garden, leaving his disciples behind. He felt the weight of grief descend like never before and “he began to be sore amazed, and very heavy,” (Mark 14:33). He hoped for a way out, and when there was no other way, He bravely took on the weight of that night. We can’t hold back the nights of our lives, we must bravely face them as Jesus Christ did. Some things cannot be passed over, we must surrender and go through because there is no way around. However, we do not go alone, because Christ goes with us into the Garden. We can rely on His strength as we face our own eventide.
