“Acquainted with Grief”
“He is despised and rejected of men; a man of sorrows, and acquainted with grief: … Surely he hath borne our griefs, and carried our sorrows…” (Isaiah 53:3-4)
Acquainted (adj.) early 13c., “personally known;”
I know that we are personally known by Jesus Christ, and that He is also acquainted with our sorrows. I have felt Christ mourning with me as He mourned with those at the death of Lazarus, when it simply states, “Jesus wept” (John 11: 35). Truly He hath borne our griefs and carried our sorrows, making it possible for us to bear the impossible. He knows the end from the beginning, He knew Lazarus would rise, He knows our lost loved ones will also rise, but that doesn’t stop Him from mourning with us while we wait in temporary separation.
