“Are not two sparrows sold for a farthing? and one of them shall not fall on the ground without your Father. But the very hairs of your head are all numbered. Fear ye not therefore, ye are of more value than many sparrows.” -Matthew 10:29-31
When my son passed away I often wondered if accidents just happened. Was gravity just a part of life, and sometimes people fell? But as I took these questions to God, He led me to this verse in Matthew. I felt God reassuring me that if He sees the fall of every sparrow, surely he saw the fall of my son. He also saw me in my fall, in the weight that grief placed upon me. I felt the comfort of His very capable hands as He worked through the atonement of His Son, Jesus Christ, to heal me.
I also realized that sometimes we are the sparrow and sometimes we are the hands. God sometimes uses us to help His children. As he catches and heals us, we are better prepared to be catchers ourselves.
