“And the rain descended, and the floods came, and the winds blew, and beat upon that house; and it fell not: for it was founded upon a rock.” Matthew 7:25
I think the strongest I have ever been was enduring the storms that came after my son’s near drowning. Sympathetic storming is when the sympathetic nervous system goes into hyperactivity following brain injury. It includes periods of rapid breathing, increased heart rate, the flexing of muscles, and excessive sweating. When the storms began they would be around 20 minutes and my three-year-old son would collapse in exhaustion, but over time the storms grew in intensity lasting up to 48 hours. As a mom, all I could do was watch, hold my son’s hand, and pray.
God fulfilled His promise to me, helping me to withstand the storms that eventually passed. Even when the storms took my son away from me, God continued to strengthen me, holding me up from day to day. He is my rock, my cornerstone, and the means of eventually allowing me to find Victory over death.
